BallDropSTAMPBelieve it or not, 2016 begins next week, and what better way to ring in the New Year than surrounded by your friends and neighbors in your own city?

The folks at the Heritage of Flight Committee will once again usher in the New Year with a downtown ball drop held on New Year’s Eve at Main and Washington Streets.

Committee President Mike Lowrey said that the traditional festivities will continue again this year, with the action beginning downtown at 9 p.m. Rock on Ice out of Columbus will once again be on hand to carve ice sculptures and make “autograph blocks” with children’s names for them to take home and put in the freezer for a keepsake of the night.

Lowrey said there will also be music, a 50/50 drawing, and a cake auction with specialties from Cake Creations.

The festival committee invites everyone to come downtown to ring in the New Year and watch the ball descend right at midnight. With this season’s unnaturally warm weather, I hope that New Year’s Eve will be just cool enough to preserve the ice sculptures, but not as miserably cold as the last two year’s ball drop ceremonies!
