George L. Sanders, 61, of Springfield went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 15, 2010.
He was born in Springfield, Ohio on May 18, 1949, the son of George and Mary Jane (Heskett) Sanders.He served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War.
George was a retired mechanic and earned his B S degree in religion from the Circleville Bible College.
George was a member of Beacon St Church of Christ in Christian Union, where he carried credentials as a counselor in the Church of Christ in Christian Union.
He was a new member of Clark Lodge #101 F & AM, having been raised in the Grand Master’s one day class in June.
He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids, nieces, nephews and “adoptive grandkids”.
George loved the Lord very much and loved to spread the word about Jesus, especially through gospel music.
In his spare time he collected knives, coins, and trains.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Anita, brothers Ed, Harry, and Don Sanders, and son James Robert Sanders.
His survivors include his daughters Shelley (Tom) Stump and Lurline (David) Driscoll; sons Wayne (Amanda), Thomas, and Nathan Roth all of Springfield; sisters Brenda (James) Leach of Trotwood, Clara (Ed) Wilson and Myra (Bill) Dillon both of Springfield; brothers Greg (Patricia) Sanders of Crowley, Texas, and William (Anita) Sanders of New Carlisle; brother in law John (Betty) Bailey of Enon; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of George’s life will be Tuesday at 11:00AM in the Beacon St Church of Christ in Christian Union with Rev. Joe Dillard officiating. Visitation one hour prior to services. Burial to follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, South Charleston.
Memorial contributions are requested to the church. RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME has been entrusted with the final arrangements.
