What Is A Dash? PDF Print E-mail

I define it as the line between the time you were born and the time that you die. That line can hopefully be one that lasted for a very long time, or one that was way too short.

It is the time that we were here on earth. No matter how we spent it, it all looks the same, but the people that knew and loved us, knew what impression we made in that dash.
That line does not tell a tale of hardships one had to go through. It does not tell of all the bad luck, or even worse, a bad illness.
Some people have had a long road to travel, with much despair. That line does not tell of who helped them through those times, or if they were alone. It only tells us the start and finish. We, who loved those who went through bad times, know how brave and courageous they were.
We hold the story of their dash. There are the people who were taken too soon from this life, but yet, have the same line between their dates.
Only dates tell of the short time here on earth, but they do not tell the impression they made on all that knew them.
It does not tell of their beautiful smile or their infectious personality that all remember. In their short time with us, they made lasting impressions that some never make with long years between their dash.
We need to be thankful they were part of our lives, even if it was for a short time, for there are many who never experienced the joy they gave us. We need to treasure the memories of them, for that cannot ever be taken away from us.
It would be wonderful if we could read between those dates to see how they spent those years on earth. It would be great if we could see how that dash played out.
It seems we all would want our dash to be remembered by all that knew us, as an impressive dash.
Our dash should be how we enjoyed life, and the impact we made on others’ lives.
We all have been given the gift of life, and it is how we use that gift that matters. We need not to waste a day, or take it for granted. We may not have tomorrow.
If you look back and are not pleased with how your dash as been spent so far, it is not too late to change it. It is never too late to change for the good, or try something new.
If you have been blessed with a great life, or whether you have traveled a very bumpy road, share all the good that you have with others.
Pay some good forward, and you will be surprised how richer your life and your dash will be.
Chase your dreams, no matter what your age. Your dash is what you make it. It is not how many breaths you have taken, but the moments in your dash that take everyone’s breath away.
Pay some good forward and make your dash one to be remembered by all who knew you.
