A 65 year old male is being treated for injuries after shooting himself in the hand.

The incident happened around 11:45 this morning at the office of Dr. Mark Kellar DDS on Church St. in New Carlisle.

Sheriff Kelly says Jim Short, a licensed CCW holder, brought his 9mm handgun into his dentist appointment.  There were no signs posted outside the office.

According to Kelly, Short was under nitrous oxide when he thought he heard his phone ring. Short reached for his phone and grabbed his gun instead. Short removed the gun from the holster, pulled the trigger, and shot himself in the hand. The bullet passed through his hand, ricocheted, and struck Short in the ribs.

Sheriff Kelly does not believe charges will be filed as no one else was injured.
