Gary Preston failed to stop for a red light and was struck in the passenger side by a 2016 Chevrolet 2500HD pick-up truck that was traveling eastbound on US 40.

The Springfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a fatal crash that occurred on US 40 at the intersection of Upper Valley Pike.

At approximately 7:28pm on February 19, 2017 a 2008 Toyota Yaris driven by Gary L. Preston 48, of Springfield Ohio was traveling southbound on Upper Valley Pike. Mr. Preston failed to stop for a red light. Mr. Preston was struck in the passenger side by a 2016 Chevrolet 2500HD pick-up truck that was traveling eastbound on US 40, driven by Douglas E. Maddy 57, of Zanesfield Ohio.

Mr. Preston was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr. Maddy was treated at the scene, his front seat passenger Lynney M. Maddy 53, of Zanesfield Ohio and three juvenile passengers were transported to Springfield Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. The crash closed eastbound United States Route 40 for approximately three hours.
