Clark County Deputies and Ohio State Patrol Troopers were searching along Route 235 just south of New Carlisle Monday evening for a suspect involved in a crash at Rt. 235 and Rt. 40.

Around 9:00 p.m., a driver of a Nissan was northbound on 235 approaching the intersection at Rt. 40. At the intersection a southbound pickup truck was in the left turn lane. The Nissan started veering to the left. The pickup driver swerved to avoid a collision but was struck in the rear quarter-panel.

The driver of the Nissan then fled the scene on foot, heading north on Rt. 235.

A deputy spotted the driver near FYI, and called the Bethel Township Fire Department to assist in the search with their infra-red heat-seeking equipment. They were not successful.

The driver was captured near the bike path crossing, and was taken back to the scene of the accident for field sobriety tests.

A family member reported that the driver called her and said that he was in a field somewhere and was scared.

The driver was uncooperative with deputies and troopers.

Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the collision.

Deputies and troopers were assisted by the Bethel Township Fire Department and the New Carlisle Fire Department.

The incident remains under investigation by the Ohio State Patrol.
