Sunday 8/7

12:06 p.m. While on patrol, a deputy saw a vehicle in a driveway on Milton-Carlisle Rd. that was a suspected meth dealer. The deputy asked if they were OK, and they said they were just fixing a speaker in the vehicle. The deputy saw a large machete and an open beer can in the vehicle near the passenger’s seat. He asked the passenger about them and he said “It’s not my car.” The driver and passenger were secured in a cruiser while the deputies inspected the vehicle. Under the beer can was a Heroin capsule. The vehicle was searched, and the search yielded what deputies believed to be heroin, marijuana and meth. There were also multiple cell phones in the vehicle. One of the individuals did not have identification, and identified himself as Michael Monore. The deputy pulled up Monroe’s information and the photo of Monroe was not the subject. The deputy then said “You’re Christopher Hillard, aren’t you.” The subject admitted his true identity. Hillard said he gave a false name “because I didn’t want another driving charge.” Hillard, of Fairborn, was arrested for four counts of possession of drugs, identity fraud, obstructing official business, obstruction of justice, falsification and trafficking in drugs. The subject then said “That’s not my car and them are not my drugs.” The vehicle was towed and Hillard was transported to the Clark County Jail.

2:47 p.m. A Frayne Dr. resident called to report that he had given a male subject about $400 to repair two of his vehicles. He said that the subject fixed one vehicle but not the other. He said that he had called the subject and told him that he was picking up the vehicle. He said the subject told him that he had fixed the original problem, but that another problem arose and that he would need more money. He said he told the subject that he was done doing business with him and he wanted his vehicle back. He said the subject told him that he could pick up the vehicle but that the man owed him $300 and that he would “get it somehow.” He asked that the incident be documented in case there are issues with the subject in the future.

3:15 p.m. To Dallas Dr. for a report of a domestic dispute. A man reported that he had an argument with his girlfriend because she damaged his vehicle. The girlfriend said that she had hit something two nights ago and the boyfriend found out about it today. Both agreed to stay separated for the evening.

9:23 p.m. To Plumwood Dr. A woman reported that her phone box and cable box outside the home were open. She said that her TV and phone worked and that nothing in the home was out of place or missing. She was advised to contact the companies involved and inform them.

Monday 8/8

12:54 p.m. A Galewood Dr. woman called to report that her estranged husband held a fundraiser for her son, who has leukemia, but she has not seen any of the money. She said that her husband has since obtained a protection order against her so she cannot contact him to find out where the money is. The owner of a foundation who assisted in the fundraiser told her that her husband had spent the money on household items. She believes that he raised about $500.

4:21 p.m. To Smith Park for a report of a found item. A woman reported finding a knife in the park near the bike path. The knife had USMC engraved on the blade. It was submitted into property.

5:20 p.m. To Frayne Dr. for a report of a theft. A man reported that he let an employee go after one day because he wasn’t working out. He said he then asked the employee if he wanted to work on the man’s vehicle and the employee agreed. The employee needed $200 up front, so the man gave it to him. He said the employee keeps calling saying that he needs more money for more parts. He said that he opened the hood and there were no new parts on the vehicle that the employee said that he had replaced. He asked that the employee be charged with theft.

6:32 p.m. To Frayne Dr. for a report of a domestic disturbance. A man reported that his son and the son’s girlfriend were arguing and that she assaulted his son. The son then said that everything was fine and that the deputies were not needed. He was advised that the deputies would continue their investigation and would leave when done. The son said that he and his girlfriend have a 3-year-old son and that she is 6 months pregnant. He also said that there is a possibility that the child is not his. He said that she had spoken to the other male today and the argument started. He said that in the argument she bit him on the wrist, but that he did not wish to press charges. He was advised that since he had visible injuries and said that she had bit him, she would be charged with domestic violence and assault. The girlfriend said that she bit him but was trying to get his arm off of her. She was transported to the Clark County Jail.

9:17 p.m. To Hartley Ave. A woman reported that she received messages from a female subject who threatened her with bodily harm. She said the subject told her that she thought she was messaging her boyfriend. She wanted the incident documented in case there are problems in the future.

9:51 p.m. A Crystal Lakes woman called to report that her ex-husband has been contacting her in violation of the protection order she has against him. She said that she received messages from him on her son’s phone. The deputy saw the text that stated that the husband was at her home and was going to shower, spend time with the dog and the boys and then was going to turn himself in. Deputies went to the home to contact the husband. When he answered the door and saw the deputies, he slammed the door closed and turned the lights off. Dispatch reported that the husband was on the phone and wanted to speak to Deputy Cox. Cox was able to convince the husband to come out. He was then taken into custody without incident. The husband was taken to the Clark County Jail and charged with one count of felony violation of protection order.

Tuesday 8/9

3:52 p.m. To Brookfield Dr. for a report of phone harassment. A husband and wife reported that their grandson’s step-father has been calling and texting them and will not stop. They said that the step-father texts the couple and their son over 50 times a day trying to get them to fight. The step-father was advised and told that the family is tired of the harassment and it must stop. He agreed not to contact them any more.

11:49 p.m. To S. Church St. A woman reported that someone took her phone and was in her tree. The deputy arrived to find the woman standing under the tree with a piece of wood. She was told to put the wood down, but continued to yell at non-existent subjects in the tree. Her 7-year-old son was lying on the ground by the tree. She admitted to drinking and taking Xanax. New Carlisle Medics were contacted and transported her to Springfield Regional Medical Center for treatment. The son was released to her boyfriend. The son said that he couldn’t remember the last time he had anything to eat or drink. The boyfriend said that the son had just eaten at McDonald’s three hours ago.

Wednesday 8/10

1:37 p.m. To W. Union Rd. for a report of a break-in. A man reported that someone entered his barn and took two boards that were over 100 years old that were being used in construction inside the barn. There are no suspects.

7:37 p.m. While on patrol, a deputy saw a disabled vehicle in the 5000 block of New Carlisle Pike. Dispatch reported that they contacted the owner and he said it had been there since the weekend and that he would be there on Monday (8/7/16) to pick it up. It was towed.

11:15 p.m. To S. Dayton-Lakeview Rd. for a report of a theft. A man reported that the Postal Service delivered a package to his home at 10:33 this morning, but it was not there. He said that several neighbors saw the package by the mailboxes. He said that several residents have complained about missing mail, and another resident’s boyfriend was a suspect in all of them. He said that the boyfriend intimidates neighbors so they won’t file reports. He said that he posted a note on the mailboxes that the package was taken and he was calling the Sheriff’s Office. He said that the package soon reappeared at the mailboxes. It had been ripped open and taped shut.

Thursday 8/11

12:19 a.m. To Lake Rd. for a 911 hangup. The deputy arrived to find four individuals trying to jump-start a vehicle. One of the subjects said that she accidentally called 911 when trying to use a flashlight app on her phone. The deputy noted that the vehicle had quite a bit of damage as if it had been involved in several accidents. One of the subjects had a key to the vehicle, but could not get it started. The deputy noted that the steering column had been peeled back and a screwdriver was on the front seat. He asked the individuals who owned the vehicle and they gave a name and phone number. Dispatch called the number and the woman who answered said that the individuals had permission to use the vehicle. The deputy didn’t think things looked right, so he asked Dispatch to find out who owned the vehicle. They reported that it was registered to a man who lived in Warren County. The deputy then contacted the Warren County Sheriff’s office and the deputy was familiar with the owner and the woman who was called. He said that the woman cares for the elderly male owner, and is known for drugs and loaning the vehicle out. The Warren County deputy called back and said that he was unable to contact the owner. The individuals were released and the vehicle remained at the location.

7:29 a.m. To the 8000 block of Ballentine Pike for a report of an accident. A passer-by reported that a woman appeared to have struck a mailbox and was still in the vehicle. The deputy arrived to find no one in the vehicle. It had struck two mailboxes. The owner was contacted and said that her sister was driving and had taken the vehicle without permission. She then called her brother-in-law to see where her sister was, and he told her that a Police Officer dropped her off this morning. The sister then said that she had permission to use the vehicle, and had used it several times with permission. She was advised that she would be charged with failure to control and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

12:24 p.m. To N. Dayton-Lakeview Rd. for a report of a theft. A man reported that his mother lives with him. He said that his niece came to the home asking his mother for money and was advised that she could not give her any. She said that the niece then began making multiple trips to the basement and to her vehicle. He said he was not watching what she was doing. When he went to the basement, he found that most of his tools had been taken.

5:33 p.m. To Brubaker Dr. for a report of a domestic disturbance. A woman reported that she was arguing with her daughter. She said that her daughter was trying to grab her phone and scratched her hand in the process and caused her hand to bleed. She said that she did not wish to press charges. Acting upon her statement and her physical injuries, the daughter was arrested for domestic violence and assault.

7:21 p.m. To Winchester St. for a report of a domestic disturbance. A woman reported that her father is upset because her grandmother wants him out of her house. She said that he told her he would knock her teeth out of her mouth. She would not press charges, saying that she could not put her father in jail. The father said that his daughter is lying to his mother trying to get him kicked out of the residence. He was advised that deputies could not force him to leave, but strongly suggested that he do so. He said that he had nowhere else to go and was going to his bedroom for the evening.

10:01 p.m. To Winchester St. for a report of a domestic disturbance. The deputy arrived to find a man in the driveway yelling and obviously upset. A woman inside the residence reported that the man had been staying with her and her husband, but that the man was told he had to move out. She said that the man picked up a tool set and lunged at her. She and her husband completed statements. The man in the driveway was placed under arrest for one count of domestic violence and one count of menacing.

Friday 8/12

1:41 a.m. A deputy saw two male subjects leaving the Speedway station. He approached one of them on Lake Ave and the subject said he was 17 years old. The deputy reminded him of the curfew and he took off running north on Church St. He soon found the juvenile getting into a vehicle and the vehicle then drove away. He initiated a traffic stop. A passenger advised that the three came to New Carlisle together and had planned to steal something, but did not go through with it. The driver was released without charges. One passenger was released to his mother. The juvenile who ran was charged with obstructing official business and curfew violation.

8:13 a.m. To Weinland St. for a report of a burglary. A man reported that he had evicted his son-in-law and a deputy forcibly removed him from the residence yesterday. He said that he came by this morning to check on the residence and found that the back door glass had been broken and the residence had been entered. He suspects the son-in-law but has no proof.

11:16 a.m. To N. Scott St. for a report of a domestic disturbance. A man reported that his girlfriend’s adult son had slapped her. The woman was uncooperative and would not give a direct answer. She said that she did not want anything done. She had no visible marks on her. The man said that they are trying to get the son evicted. He was given information on obtaining a protection order. No charges were filed.

3:29 p.m. To N. Main St. for a report of a theft. A store manager reported that a man came into the store and stole some items. He said that there was a witness and the theft was captured on surveillance video.

7:20 p.m. A woman came to the New Carlisle substation to report an accident. She said she was stopped at the stop sign at Bayberry and Brookfield when a young girl on a bicycle ran into her vehicle. She said she asked the girl if she was alright and the girl rode off. There was damage to her vehicle.

7:51 p.m. To White Pine St. for a report of a phone threat. A man who appeared to be intoxicated reported that his neighbor called him and was screaming at him and threatened him. The deputy spoke with the neighbor who said that he worked all day and came home to find everyone intoxicated. He said he was upset and had a verbal altercation with his girlfriend. He said he then called the RP and said that he didn’t want to be friends with him. He admitted to screaming at the RP but did not make any threats. No charges were filed.

9:21 p.m. To Gerlaugh Rd. for a report of a domestic disturbance. A woman reported that her boyfriend’s step-daughter and the step-daughter’s boyfriend were arguing over missing medication. She said she was tired of the fighting and started to pack her bag to leave for the evening. She said she went into the room where the two were arguing and said “You guys…” She said the step-daughter then charged her, pulled her hair and put her in a headlock. She said the step-daughter then started punching her in the face, damaging her glasses. She said she bit the step-daughter’s arm to get free. The step-daughter was arrested on one count of domestic violence and one count of assault and transported to the Clark County Jail.

11:13 p.m. To Weinland St. for a report of vandalism. A woman reported that someone took a rock from the driveway and threw it at the front window breaking the glass. There are no suspects.

Saturday 8/13

12:35 a.m. To McAdams Dr. for a report of a fight. Deputies arrived to find a large crowd in front of a bar. A woman reported that a woman was arguing with her but that it did not turn physical. The bar owner said that the woman was told that she could not take her drink outside and got angry. He said that the argument did not turn physical, but several people were holding the two women from each other.

12:37 a.m. To W. National Rd. for a report of a burglary and the suspect was being detained in the front yard. The deputy arrived and put the suspect in the cruiser. He said that he had been talking to the homeowner on Facebook. He said that the homeowner picked him up at his home in New Carlisle. He said they went to Huber Heights, then back to her home. He said that while they were in Huber, he bought $10 worth of gas for her vehicle. The deputy then spoke with the homeowner who denied having a conversation with the suspect and denied going anywhere with him. The suspect said that he put a pack of gum at the head of the bed and a can of pop on the second shelf. He also said that he helped her put a fan on top of the dryer to improve air flow through the house. The deputy went inside and found the items he described. The deputy then took the suspect to his home where he showed the deputy his conversation with the woman. The suspect’s father said that he saw someone in a white SUV pick his son up. The woman was charged with falsifying a police report and obstruction of justice.

7:54 a.m. A deputy saw a disabled vehicle on Main St. The driver said that he had stayed with a friend on Drake Ave. He said that when he was leaving he found that someone broke a window and mirror on his vehicle. He also had a flat tire. He said the only thing taken was a saw that didn’t work. There are no suspects.

10:57 a.m. To Woodglen Ln. for a report of a physical domestic disturbance. The deputy was advised that the male half had left the residence. He was located on Cliffside Dr. and said that he and his wife had been involved in an altercation this morning. He said that yesterday they were arguing because he bought shoes for his step-daughter. He said that this morning the argument continued. He said that she pointed her finger on his forehead and scratched him. He also said that he had marijuana in his bag. They then went to the residence and the deputy found the wife crying hysterically. She said that he slapped her in the face and tried to choke her. She said that she was able to get away and told him that she was calling the police and he got mad. She said he then tried to choke her again and she grabbed at him and scratched his face. The husband was arrested for domestic violence, assault and possession of marijuana and taken to the Clark County Jail.

2:08 p.m. To the bridge on New Carlisle Pike for a report of males living under it. The deputy arrived to find three males under the bridge, two sitting on rocks and one lying on a mattress. As the deputy approached them, the man on the mattress stuck something under it. The deputy looked under the mattress and found a pill bottle with no markings on it and pills inside. The man said they were Neurontin and he takes them for his bad shoulder and that he has a prescription. He could not identify the pharmacy nor the doctor who prescribed them. They were found not to be a controlled substance.

3:35 p.m. To Winchester St. for a report of misuse of a credit card. A woman reported that she received an alert from her bank that there were some questionable purchases made on her credit card. There were 10 transactions totaling nearly $470 made in Marion, Indiana. She said she called the store and they said they could not help her. She said she also called the Marion Police Department and they said they don’t take reports over the phone. She said that she has cancelled the card.

11:10 p.m. To S. Dayton-Lakeview Rd. for a report of phone harassment. A woman reported that her ex-boyfriend was sending her threatening messages on Facebook. She said that he is mad because she has a new boyfriend, and is concerned that he showed up at her home tonight. She asked that the incident be documented in case there were any problems in the future.


Bethel Township (Miami Co.) Sheriff Reports

Tuesday 8/9

10:12 p.m. Disturbance reported in the 4200 block of US Route 40. Dispatch advised deputy that the caller stated a male at the residence had a gun on his person. Caller also stated during the confrontation the male exited the residence and threw the gun behind a trailer. A second caller stated the first caller was the one with the gun. Upon arrival deputies found two males in a vehicle, ordered them to show their hands and walk towards the deputies. They were detained, handcuffed and placed in the rear of cruisers. A third male was observed inside a trailer that matched the description of the male who reportedly threw the gun. No weapons were located at the scene. Deputy spoke with the man who had been located in the trailer. He stated the trailer belonged to a family member and Edward Shoffner was dropping off property. Shoffner and the family member began to argue with Shoffner leaving. Shoffner parked his car down the road and call 911. The male stated no one said anything to him about a gun, nor did he see one. The family member left the scene due to having an active warrant out of Clark County and deputies were unable to get her side of the story. Deputy spoke with Shoffner who advised he had driven the vehicle to where it was parked on US Route 40. It was discovered that Shoffner had failed to reinstate his driver’s license. He was placed into custody for failure to reinstate and transported to the Miami County Jail.

Friday 8/12

10:14 a.m. Theft no in progress in the 5000 block of S. State Route 201. RP reported her Rumpke trash can was stolen. Rumpke needed a report in order to replace the can.

Saturday 8/13

11:57 p.m. Suspicious priority in the area of Walnut St and W. Mann Road. Upon investigation one male was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence, drug possession and open container.

Monday 8/15

3:28 p.m. Theft not in progress in the 6900 block of US Route 40. Unknown person(s) gave a credit card to the cashier and then drove off with miscellaneous merchandise. When the cashier ran the credit card it was declined.

4:32 p.m. Disturbance reported in the area of Studebaker Road and S. State Route 202. No further information available.

Tuesday 8/16

2:16 p.m. Traffic stop in the area of S. State Route 202 and Tipp Elizabeth Road. While on routine patrol deputy observed a validation sticker indicate the expiration was 8-16. Running the registration through LEADS it was discovered the sticker expired on 8-10-16. A traffic stop was initiated and contact with the driver, Kayla Harrop. She was also found to be operating under a suspended driver’s license. A licensed driver responded to pick up Harrop who was released after being given her citations for DUS and expired registration.

Wednesday 8/17

00:52 a.m. Traffic stop in the area of Pisgah Rd and E. State Route 571. Kelly Spencer was stopped for a vehicle equipment violation. While checking Spencer through LEADS it was discovered he had a suspended driver’s license. Spencer was issued a citation for DUS and released to a valid driver.

11:23 a.m. Fraud reported in the 9800 block of W. Haskett Lane. Victim’s credit card had been used without his knowledge or permission. He was notified by his bank that his number had been used in California and Arizona. The victim has not left the state in several months and had possession of the card. The bank closed the account to prevent any future transactions and he would be receiving a new card. A report was requested so the bank could continue their investigation.
