Vacation…the word implies a time of rest and relaxation for both body and soul. But a couple of weeks ago, I discovered that a Disney vacation is better associated with exhaustion when it is spent with your grandchildren. Don’t misunderstand. I enjoyed every moment we spent with our grandkids at Disney World. We had a wonderful time. Relaxation just wasn’t part of the package.

I often ask where kids get all their energy. How can they still go strong after hours in a blistering hot sun. I am convinced that they drain all that strength from their grandparents! Eventually, I hope to recover. I wonder if that 5-hour Energy drink really works?
One of the highlights of our week was watching the outdoor theatrical spectacular, “Fantasmic.” During this incredible display of fireworks, laser lights, water projection, and other state of the art special effects, there is a story being told about Mickey Mouse doing battle with a multitude of Disney villains; the Evil Queen, Cruella De Vil, Ursella, Scar, and Jafar… among others! At the end of the epic struggle, our three year old granddaughter, McKenna exclaimed, “Bampa, Mickey saved the day!”
Frankly, I was surprised that our youngest grandchild made that connection. She was most impressed that Mickey Mouse had conquered that evil horde. What a victory!
The theme of good versus evil found so often in the classic Disney films is central to Scripture. The throne of the God of Righteousness is audaciously challenged by the Evil One. The Bible explains that Satan and his minions are in rebellion against the LORD and are intent upon the destruction of those who align themselves with the Him.
The devil’s activity is all too apparent.
I have to admit that sometimes as I encounter these battles of good versus evil on a daily basis, I grow discouraged. I witness the break-up of families that occur despite prayerful and determined efforts to bring about reconciliation. I see folks bound by addictions who can’t seem to overcome their evil domination. I weep as I watch people selling their souls for trinkets that are falsely advertised as treasures. I grieve when lawbreakers seem to get away with their crimes as the cold case files stack up high. I grow angry when terrorists manage to escape the bonds of justice.
While it often appears that evil is winning, we are assured that in the end, Christ Jesus will emerge victorious. The Book of Revelation assures us that “the devil who deceived them was cast into the lake of fire…” (Rev. 20:10)
In Revelation chapter 21, we learn that “the cowardly, the unbelieving, the abominable, the murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone…”
In the end, evil loses! God’s judgment will bring the hammer down! Righteousness will reign supreme!
One of my favorite anthems is the soul thrilling, “It Is Finished.” It speaks of the outcome of this titanic struggle between the forces of Good and evil. The Bill Gaither Vocal Band can be heard at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGuaJM_JmyI performing this inspiring piece. I suggest you who may be discouraged take a few minutes to listen. You will be powerfully reminded that Jesus will “save the day!”
