Coming into the season, everyone touted the Tippecanoe Red Devils as one of the favorites to win the Central Buckeye Conference.  Apparently, the Tecumseh Arrows didn’t get the message.
The Arrows jumped out to a five-run lead, and withstood a late rally from the host Red Devils to win their conference opener 5-3 over Tippecanoe.
Tippecanoe threatened to open their half of the first inning.  Casey Clack opened the inning with a single, and stole second.  Chase Goulette walked, but the Arrows defense stepped up and made a big play.
Braden Price grounded into a huge double play, started by the shortstop Tony Evans.  Arrows hurler Adam Dixon then enduced Cody Gingerich to ground out, ending the Red Devils threat.
Tecumseh had their own threat going an inning later.  Dixon led off with a walk, and one out later, Evans ripped a double to the wall.
Chase Culbertson then tried a suicide squeeze attempt, but he popped up to the pitcher Nick Muse, who tossed over to third for an inning-ending double play.
The Arrows finally broke through an inning later, as Gabe Winans-Berner led off the inning with a double, and one out later, Trent Mead lined a run scoring single into center, giving the Arrows a 1-0 lead.
In the fifth inning, three more runs scored for Tecumseh, who opened some distance over the Red Devils.
All happened with two outs, as Mead doubled and moved up on a passed ball.  Alec Stapleton was hit by a pitch, and J.T. Brubaker scored Mead with a single.  With Dixon at the plate, a wild pickoff attempt allowed Stapleton to score, making it 3-0.
Brubaker gave the Arrows their fourth run of the inning, by scoring on a wild pitch.  After Dixon finally reached base on a walk, he stole second and moved up on a wild pitch.
Tippecanoe finally stopped the run when Alex Sheets grounded out, sending the game into the bottom of the fifth with Tecumseh leading 5-0.
Tippecanoe finally broke through in the fifth when Cameron Johnson and Kyle Pignatiello both singled, and one out later, Keagen Putnam scored Johnson with a ground out.
While the Arrows offense was stagnent in the late innings, they tried to hold on to the lead.
Tipp added another run in the sixth, when Gingerich doubled with two outs, moved up on a passed ball, and scored when Craig Koehler reached on an error by the Arrows shortstop, closing the deficit to 5-2.
The Red Devils didn’t waste any time in their final at bat to attempt a comeback.  Pignatiello walked, and scored when pinch hitter Cameron Daniel doubled.  He moved up when Putnam flew out, and the tying run came to the plate.
Dixon settled in and retired the next two batters, and the Arrows escaped Clawson Field with the win.
