Both the Bethel and Tecumseh track squads had participants in the Dayton regional track meet, with the top four competitors in each event qualifying for the state meet this weekend in Columbus. Of all the local kids who were involved in the regional meet, only one has advanced to the state meet, as Jordan Holtvogt finished fourth in the 200 meter dash in the Division Three meet. His 22.89 was tied with Clayton Scheidler of Williamsburg, and Holtvogt was awarded fourth place, good enough to send him to the meet in Columbus. Also finishing tenth in the 4x200 meter relay were the Bees, and the team of Derrick, Diddle, Jon Tumen, Kody Traylor and Holtvogt. Their time of 1:35.58 was three seconds shy of what it took to qualify. Also attempting to qualify for the state meet was Kyle Hamlin in the 1600 meter run. The multi-sport athlete finished the event in 4:36.00, placing him seventh overall, falling short of what it took to qualify for the state meet. “I felt fine after three laps,” Hamlin said following the meet. “In the last 200 (meters), I was dead out there.” Hamlin qualified for the state in this event in 2010, and went about his routine the same way this year. “I didn’t do anything differently, I ran the same. The field I was running against got faster.” Maddie Ellerbrock was the lone Lady Bees runner to compete at regionals, as the freshman finished thirteenth overall in the 400 meter dash qualifier with a time of 63.92. The top four to qualify for state ran between 58.42-59.39 seconds. Traylor also fell short of making it to the finals in the boys 400, as he ran a solid 54.67, but needed to be two seconds faster to qualify for the finals in that race. Also attempting to qualify for state was the Bethel 4x400 meter relay team, but they finished thirteenth in the race with a time of 3:40.64. That relay team consisted of Patrick Bain, Zach Ulrich, Diddle and Traylor. Traylor came back in the long jump and had three jumps over 20 feet, with his longest being 20-feet, 8.25-inches. That jump gave him a ninth place finish, one foot short of the top four and a chance at heading to the state meet. The final competitor for the Bees at the regional was Scott Poffenberger in the shot put. The Morehead State signee for football wanted to cap his athletic career in a big way, but fell short of a state bid with a throw of 40-feet, 08.50-inches. * Tecumseh also had athletes run in the Division One regionals, but none have advanced to the state meet. Jasmine Redman finished eleventh in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:20.44, Jeremy Herdman was twelfth in the 400 meter dash qualifier (51.61), while Logan Crockett was fourteenth in the 300 hurdles prelims. In the 800 meter run, Jaci Combs finished with a time of 2:29.80, finishing fourteenth.
