Greenon senior MacKenzie McMillin ran a 19:13.18 at the girls Division Two Cross Country Regional Meet, to lead the Greenon girls cross country team to the state tournament next weekend in Columbus.Â
Greenon, Tecumseh, and Tippecanoe had runners compete at the regionals, but only the girls from Greenon were fortunate to advance. McMillin finished fifth overall, as everyone was chasing the eventual winner Emily Stites from Cincinnati Wyoming, who cruised to the win running an 18:33.03. Erica Miller was the next closest Knight runner, as she placed 27th overall, with a finish of 20:26.36. Only the top four teams, and top 16 individuals advance to state. Sophomore Lianne Masquelier also finished in the top 40, as she finished 36th overall, with a time of 20:38.39, while senior Mary Wenzell finished 42nd overall, running a 20:49.10. Placing 46th was Greenon freshman Brittany Kozak (20:54.74), while freshman Katherine Shriver ran a 22:19.23, and Sydney Lewis ran 22:40.92. Also in the Division 2 girls’ race, Tippecanoe’s Claudia Barhorst was their highest placer, finishing 31st overall with a 20:32.12. Also for Tipp, Brinna Price finished 21:09.31, Alexandra Mahan 21:30.14, Meredith Coughlin 21:46.21, Katherine Wilcher 22:00.16, Allison Rawlins 22:29.04, and Peyton Miller 23:25.66. In the Division One girls race, Tecumseh failed to advance anyone to the state meet. Jaci Combs was their highest finisher, placing 31st overall with a time of 19:44.25. Also from the Lady Arrows, Addie Biteman finished the race in 20:46.21, Kaitlin Ritter 20:48.94, and Allison Gibson 20:58.53. Winning the girls Division Two race was Claudia Saunders of Princeton, with a time of 18:19.11, edging Jacquelyn Crow by less than one second. Over in the boys Division Two race, Greenon’s Brandon McNeil finished 20th, with a time of 17:21.00, the only area runner involved. Finally in the Division One boys’ race, Tippecanoe’s Sam Wharton placed eighth overall, good enough to send him to the state meet. Wharton ran a 16:06.28. Rick Andrews also ran in the regionals, as the Tippecanoe junior finished 39th with a time of 16:52.13. Other Red Devils finishers were Grant Koch (78th), Jay Schairbaum (105th), Jaren Rindler (114th), while Daniel Frame and Will Brockman also participated in the race.
