It went from excitement to disappointment for the Tecumseh Arrows boys basketball team last weekend, as the boys' squad split a pair of games.
On Friday, they escaped with a thrilling league victory over their foes from Tippecanoe 37-34. One day later, the Arrows struggled on the road, and lost to a solid Butler team 46-27. Against Tipp, it came down to the final play of the game that preserved the tight victory. Tecumseh led by one but the Red Devils were setting up for the final shot. After the ball got loose, Tecumseh's Scott Snarr recovered and hit the layup to put Tecumseh up three. Tipp missed a prayer at the buzzer, and the Arrows snuck out with a hard fought 37-34 victory. Tecumseh was in control for the opening half, jumping out to a 20-12 lead at the break, but Tipp came back looking for their first win of the season. After taking the lead, the Red Devils watched as the Arrows came back in the final period of play, and Tecumseh put the game away in the final seconds. Trent Mead led the Arrows with 13 points, while Culbertson and Snarr added seven points each. On Saturday, the Arrows came back and suffered through a rough offensive night, falling at Butler 46-27, as they fell behind early and never could muster any kind of offense. Butler led 25-15 at the half, and increased their lead to 36-19 after three periods. Culbertson led the Arrows with 14, while nobody else could score more than four points. Tecumseh hosts Stebbins on Friday night, 7:30 pm tipoff. * Last week, it was former Tecumseh multi-sport star Josh McKee, who is now a senior at Wittenberg, who brought home several honors from the recent football season. As a junior, McKee set the Wittenberg and North Coast Athletic Conference record with 1,368 receiving yards and school records with 67 receptions and 16 receiving touchdowns. This season, he came back with 1,077 yards and 12 touchdowns on 62 catches, and will graduate as the all time conference leader for career yards, receptions and touchdowns. He was named first-team all-region for the second straight year, and just last week, was named to the NCAA Division 3 All-Ohio honors. McKee finishes his career ranked in the top 15 in NCAA Division Three history with 4,022 receiving yards, and 46 touchdowns.
