It is one of the largest and most historical wrestling events in the Miami Valley every year.Â
It spent several years at Vandalia Butler High School, only to move out to a larger venue, the Nutter Center at Wright State University. For the Tecumseh Arrows wrestling squad, this is a bit of a down year. Not only did they struggle to compete in this event, but the numbers seem down also, not filling all of the weight classes. Over 50 schools participated in the Greater Miami Valley Wrestling Association Holiday Tournament, including the Arrows. Opening the day was the rat tail play-in matches, where grapplers would have to survive that preliminary match to advance to the actual bracket play. In the 152 pound weight class, Tecumseh's Chuck Buchanan lost his opening rat tail match to Nick DePeel of Princeton 5-3 in a close match. Winning his opening match for the Arrows was 170-pounder Cody Snyder, who defeated Nate Miller of Bellefontaine 11-4 to advance. Also at 182 pounds, Garrett Watson from Tecumseh fell victim to Chase Vial of Vandalia Butler 11-5 in his opening match. Onto the first round of regular action for the Arrows, Austin Ferguson at 132 pounds lost his opening match of the tourney, falling to Adam Zantal from Stebbins via technical fall 15-0. Ferguson also lost in the rat tail consolations, as he was pinned by Evan Gottis of Glen Este in 1:45. In another opening round match, Snyder came back at 170 and earned an 8-7 decision over Dylan Lindesmith of GlenOak , while Tecumseh's Tristan Taylor lost his first match at 220, getting pinned in 1:56 by Nathan Martin of Butler. Watson came back in the first consolation match and lost to Ashton Jackson of Trotwood Madison 11-5. Snyder came back after his opening win, and was defeated in 3:01 by Armani Robinson of Greeneview, and was eliminated by Devin Obermeyer of Glen Este 2-1 in a close match. Also in his last match, Taylor lost 8-4 to Devin Oliver of Versailles. Tecumseh will participate in the Clark County Clash at Shawnee on Saturday, and the remainder of their schedule looks like this: Jan.14th, at Valley View Invitational, Jan. 18th, at Shawnee, Jan. 21st, at Indian Lake Invitational, Jan. 26th, at Tippecanoe Invitational, Jan. 28th, at Ben Logan Raider Invitational, and Feb. 11th, at CBC meet (at Bellefontaine).
