It came down to the final shot for the Lady Arrows, and despite having a rough shooting night, Bianca Quisenberry was the one to take it.
The 5-8 junior buried a shot from the baseline, and drew the foul, connecting on the three-point play to lead the Lady Arrows to a 44-41 win over Lorain in the Classic in the Country at Hiland High School Monday afternoon. "This was a huge win for us, coming off of the big win over Tipp on Monday," said Tecumseh coach Danielle Thomas. "They were bigger than us, and this was a big confidence builder for us, showing we can play in this kind of environment."Both teams came out trying to utilize their strength, as Tecumseh's Bianca Quisenberry and Lorain's Alex Harris battled in the opening quarter. Harris is a 6-foot-1 junior who made her presence felt early with a pair of blocks. While Quisenberry struggled with her shot in the opening quarter, Chelsey Davis, the 6-foot Lady Arrows senior picked up her second foul late in the opening period forcing her to the bench, and the Arrows trailed after the opening period 11-6. Quisenberry and Miranda Mougey hit consecutive three's in the second period to give the Lady Arrows their first lead since early in the first quarter at 14-13, despite both teams struggling to hit shots. Madison Stoyka then gave Lorain the lead again when she connected on a pair of free throws with 2:40 left in the half. Another layup by Stoyka kept the lead with Lorain, until Megan Christmann scored with under two minutes left in the half. A late free throw by Quisenberry, gave the Lady Arrows a 19-17 lead at the half. A six point run early in the third quarter pushed Lorain into the lead, as they had a 25-20 advantage midway through the period. An acrobatic layup by Brittany Frappier closed the gap to three, and when Quisenberry hit a pair of free throws as the clock expired, cutting the Lorain lead to 33-32 heading to the fourth. Quisenberry started the final period with a three, giving the Lady Arrows a 35-33 lead, and the Lady Arrows took the lead late until Preshus Hawthorne put Lorain in front with a pair of free throws with 1:35 left. Davis put the Lady Arrows back in the lead with a strong move against Harris, and with 1:10 left, Tecumseh was in front by one. Two free throws late by Harris tied the game at 41 with 54.7 seconds left, but Quisenberry came up with a clutch baseline jumper and connected on the three-point play, giving the Lady Arrows a 44-41 lead under 23 seconds. but the Lady Arrows survived a last barrage of three's in the final 10 seconds for the win. "That play was smart on Brittany's (Frappier) part to find Bianca for the shot," Thomas said. "She was unselfish." Tecumseh returns to action on Saturday night, hosting Stebbins at 7:30.
