COLUMBUS – Jasmine Redman, a junior at Tecumseh, competed Saturday in the state cross country meet in Columbus Saturday and ran a 19:56.
“She has struggled with injuries all season, and (trainer) Jerry (Whetstone) did a great job getting her to the state meet,” said Tecumseh coach Dan Vaughan. “She was disappointed after the meet, but she should be proud of being a back-to-back state qualifier. ”Getting to this point was tough for Redman, but Vaughan knows they took the proper route to get her ready.“Every week, we wanted to get her more miles, but Jerry held her back until she was ready,” he added. It worked out great and we got her to state.” Most of the Lady Arrows squad accompanied Redman to state, and Vaughan feels it will help this squad be ready for next year.“The girls saw what the state meet was like, and they will be chomping to get back next year as a team,” Vaughan said. “They didn’t like coming and not running.”Redman led the squad to not only a Kenton Trail Division title, but a trip to the regionals, after getting through a tough district meet.“Early in the year when we ran at Tipp, we knew we had a long way to go to repeat as league champs, and get out of the districts,” Vaughan said.  “At the district draw, we chose to go somewhere that we could finish in the top two of the districts. The girls really had a great day and we had the chance to run at regionals.”In that race, Redman finished thirteenth overall, which allowed her to advance to state. Her time was 19:35, and led Tecumseh to a ninth place finish at the regionals.“I couldn’t be more proud of Jasmine with what she’s done this year,” Vaughan said.  “She has trained with Alison (Steinbrunner) the last few years, and she took over the team this year. This was Jasmine’s team this year.”Teammate Addie Biteman was 55th overall with a 20:51.72, while Jaci Combs was 67th (21:06.72), Leona McDaniel 74th (21:20.51) and Jordi Harrison finished 98th (22:24.44).“I feel with all of these kids coming back next year, we can run much better, and take minutes and places off of their times,” Vaughan said. Vaughan mentioned that with the young kids coming up in the middle school program, the future of the Lady Arrows is bright for the next few years. Comments (0) |
