On a cold opening day of the track season, both the Tecumseh Arrows and Bethel Bees made their debuts in the annual Tippecanoe Relays, held Saturday at Tippecanoe.

 

 

On the girls side, the Lady Arrows finished 12th on the day, while Bethel placed 17th.

In the opening race of the day, Tecumseh placed second in the 4x1600 race, as Jasmine Redman, Jaci Combs, Caitlin Flack and Jordi Harrison ran a 22:15.20, finishing right behind Oakwood. In that race, an error by the track officials only allowed the third runners from both teams to run three laps. Fortunately since both of those teams were so far in front, they were not penalized due to the officials errors.

The 4x100 Shuttle Hurdle race saw Bethel with an 11th place finish, as Caitlin Graves, Maggie Kendall, Sydney Hefferson and Danielle White ran a 1:23.73.

Bethel also finished 15th in the 4x100 race, as Courtney Danner, Allison Reese, Brooke Alwine and Hefferson finished with a 1:00.45.

Both teams had top 15 finishes in the Distance Medley, led by a 7^th place finish by Tecumseh, as Redman, Addie Biteman, Leona McDaniel and Carma Berry ran the race in 15:17.81, while Bethel finished 13^th thanks to a 16:51.40 finish from Anna Grycz, Krista Burchette, Alaina Harvey and Graves.

Another 15^th place finish in the 800 Medley for Bethel saw Maggi Kendall, Sydney Compton, Danner and Reese ran a 2:21.43.

Both teams again had a top 15 finish in the 4x200, led by Tecumseh’s ninth place finish. Casey Cope, Brittany Frappier, Bianca Quisenberry and Anna Scarff ran a 1:59.55, while Bethel finished 15^th, as Morgan Parker, Maddi Waitzman, Hefferson and Reese finished the race with a 2:11.45.

One of the Lady Arrows’ top finishes on the day came in the 4x800, as the foursome of Redman, Flack, Combs and McDaniel finished third with a 10:53.05.

In the final running event, neither Tecumseh nor Bethel could capture a top 10 finish in the 4x400.

Quisenberry did finish fifth in the long jump, as the freshman leaped 13-feet, 10.5-inches.

For the boys, it was the Bees who enjoyed a few top 10 finishes, including a second-place finish in the 4x1600 race, as Adam Loewer, Aaron Burchette, Brandon Graves and Kyle Hamlin, who ran a 19:53.08. Also finishing seventh in that race was the Tecumseh team of Josh Culliton, Matt Hayden, Joe Nau and Andrew Thomas, who ran a 22:40.26.

Also with a sixth place finish in the 4x110 Hurdles was the Bethel team of David Robinson, Cameron Keough, Mike James and Brandon Garlough with a finish of 1:12.04.

In the 4x100 race, the Bees finished eighth, thanks to Jordan Holtvought, Jeff Ireland, Brandon Garlough and Daniel Yates.

Other top ten finishes for the Bees included the 4x200 team of Kody Traylor, Garlough, Yates and Holtvoght, also the 4x800 team of Lowerer, Burchette, Graves and Hamlin, and finally the 4x400 team of Derrick Diddle, Holtvoght, Swartzbaugh and Traylor.

In the field events, Scott Masin of Bethel finished fourth in the shot put with a toss of 44-feet, 3.5-inches, while Jake Masters of Tecumseh threw the same distance and finished fifth.

The closest battle on the day came in the discus, as Masters claimed the title with a throw of 134-feet, 3-inches, while Bethel’s Sam Butler was second with a finish of 130-feet, 10-inches.

Gault was fourth in the high jump for the Arrows, while Herdman was eighth in the pole vault.
