Both local track squads were in action last week, competing together in the Northwestern quad, joining the host Warriors team in the three-team meet. While the Bethel boys team had little trouble winning the meet, the Arrows and Bees girls squads battled it out for second place.
For the boys, Bethel opened the meet with a dominant performance in the 4x800 relay, as the team of Adam Loewer, Aaron Burchett, Brandon Graves and Kyle Hamlin easily won the event in 9:17.56, nearly a minute ahead of second place Tecumseh, who finished in 10:13.42.
Bethel’s Mike James and teammate Cameron Keough finished first and second in the 110 hurdles.
Daniel Yates led Bethel to a win in the 100 meter dash, running a 12.06, with Jordan Holtvoght a close third with a 12.62. Finishing right behind him was Tecumseh’s Trae Cragette, with a time of 12.92.
Tecumseh captured the 4x200 meter relay, as the team of Nick Dysinger, Riley Gault, Jeremy Herdman and Charles Buchanan ran a time of 1:36.69, with a close win over the Bees team of Kody Taylor, Brandon Garlough, Yates and Holtvoght, who finished at 1:37.56.
Bethel came back and controlled the 1600 meter run, as Kyle Hamlin ran a 4:46.11 for a first place finish, with Loewer finishing second at 4:58.66. Tecumseh’s Eric Allen was fourth at 5:17.72.
In the 4x100 relay race, it was the Bees who came out on top. Derrick Diddle joined Yates, Holtvoght and Garlough cruised to the title with a time of 46.83, with the Tecumseh group of Garrett Deckard, Seth Gray, Daymon Mason and Cragette finished second at 49.77.
The 400 meter dash was swept by the Bees for the top three spots. Dusti Swartzbaugh Traylor and Reed brought home the top three spots, while Tecumseh freshman Buchahan was fourth.
Other winners in the boys running events included Diddle in the 300 hurdles, Graves in the 800 meter run, and Loewer in the 3200 meter run. Also, the 4x400 team of Burchette, Swartzbaugh, Traylor and Diddle won that event for the Bees, with a time of 3:48.30. Tecumseh was second, with the team of Joe Nau, Luke Miller, Culliton and Allen.
In the field events, Scott Masin had a big day, winning three events. He captured the high jump (6-feet), discus (147-feet, 3-inches) and the shot put (45-feet, 2-inches). Traylor also won the long jump for the Bees.
Herdman also claimed the title in the pole vault, as the Arrows sophomore leaped 11-feet.
For the girls, both squads claimed two relay titles. Tecumseh claimed the 4x800 title, as the group of Jasmine Redman, Carma Berry, Jaci Combs and Jordi Harrison won the event in 10:30.13. Also, the Lady Arrows 4x400 team of Birttany Frappier, Anna Scarff, Redman and Combs won that event, running a time of 3:48.30.
Meanwhile, the Lady Bees won both the 4x200 and 4x100 events. In the 4x2, Maggi Kendall, Sydney Hefferon, Allison Reece and Brooke Alwine ran a 2:06.25. The other event was won by the group of Courtney Danner, Hefferon, Alwine and Reece.Â
Other winners in the running events were: Destiny Danner (Bethel) in the 100 meter hurdles, Danielle White (Bethel) in the 300 hurdles, and Jordi Harrison of Tecumseh in the 800 meter run.
Danner also came back and won the long jump, while Tecumseh’s Rebekah Woosley captured the pole vault.
