A New Carlisle man was killed Friday afternoon when his pickup truck left the road and hit trees along US Rt 40 in Bethel Twp. in Miami County.

The accident happened just before 3 pm near Sullivan Road.
The driver has been identified as 56-year-old John Hughes, according to the Miami County Sheriff’s Office.
According to deputies on the scene, witnesses said Hughes was headed east on US 40 when the crash happened. The cause of the crash has not been determined, but road conditions because of the snow and ice may have played a role.
