The New Carlisle Bicentennial Committee in cooperation with the New Carlisle Historical Society will hold a historical presentation by Mrs. Sue Curtis. The program is a continuation of our monthly schedule of activities celebrating our Bicentennial 200th Anniversary.
The presentation will be Saturday, March 6 at 7:00 PM at the Honey Creek Presbyterian Church Educational building.
Mrs. Curtis dressed in period costume, does an interpretative presentation based upon the well-preserved set of journals kept by Mr. George Carver of Elizabeth Township, Miami County. Mr. Carver began his dairy entries in 1880 and continued them for fifty years (1930). In 1882 he married Miss Julia Mock of New Carlisle.
In transcribing Mr. Carver’s journals to typewritten format, Sue became both amused and interested in the lives of the Carvers and therefore created an interpretive narration for presentation of different periods of time from the dairy. Sue presents an enjoyable evening of entertainment, and quite informative of rural life in America in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.
Mrs. Curtis’ presentation for this program will focus on Julia Carver, whose life was quite full as the wife of a farmer, mill owner, and businessman. Sue will address Julia’s role in the home, her social activities, family life, and discuss fashions of the era.
Tecumseh High School cast members have been invited to come and share some of the beautiful musical selections from their upcoming presentation of the award winning 1947 Lerner/Loewe musical Brigadoon.
The event is free and the public is cordially invited to attend. Refreshments will be served.
