Warriors Remain Atop CBC Mad River

Northwestern used a big second quarter to establish a lead and never looked back, as the boys’ basketball team defeated Ben Logan 72-51 last weekend in their lone game of the week.

With the win, the Warriors are now 8-0 in the Mad River Division of the CBC, with Indian Lake sitting in second place at 6-3. On the season, Northwestern is now 12-3 overall.

The Warriors led by five after the first quarter before going on a 25-6 run in the second period, to push their halftime lead out to 41-17 at the half.

Ben Logan won the third quarter, but the Warriors maintained their focus and earned the win.

The Warriors are back in action this weekend as they host Greenon on Friday night at 7:30, then head to West Liberty Salem on Saturday night for a non-conference game also at 7:30.

*The Northwestern girls’ basketball team had a busy week last week, as they played three times and earned two wins.

They opened with a 41-29 loss to Greenon as Abby Zerkle led the Warriors with 17 points. Northwestern then defeated Madison Plains 64-32 behind 31 points from Zerkle and 10 from Kyndall Berner in the win.

Wrapping up the weekend, the Warriors defeated Urbana 65-51 in a game that saw Zerkle go for 40 points in the win. With her performance, Zerkle has surpassed the 1,000 point mark and now has 1.023 in her career.

Northwestern plays tonight at Bellefontaine, then hosts Newton on Saturday at 1:30 in a non-league game. The game was originally scheduled to be a night game, but coach Aaron Stewart stated it will now be a day game.

Tecumseh boys defeated Shawnee 2660-2449. Scores for the Arrows include Leo Williams 149-191, Jay Woosley 209-189, Allen Ward 125-193, Dylan Terrell 182-221, Matt Brown 193-220. The Tecumseh girls also defeated Shawnee 2088-1730. Scoring for the Arrows was Alaina Collins 190-120, Keirsten Means 139, Emma Werts 141, Anna Ruunay 152-110, Adrienne Lutz 169-192, Maddie Dusko 147-130.
