Reid Hale makes the pass for the Arrows.

It has without a doubt been a rough season for the Tecumseh boys’ basketball team. But things have been looking up for the Arrows, after a rough 1-10 start to the season.

The Arrows headed into their game Friday with two wins in their last four games, and continued their solid play with a 46-37 win over Shawnee to avenge an earlier loss to the Braves in league play.

More importantly however, the win allowed the Arrows to continue their improvement as they head toward the post season.

“Our kids did a good job tonight,” Tecumseh coach Roger Culbertson said. “We went over there and lost a close game earlier in the season, and we came out and played really good defense in the first half.”

“We executed well in the first half getting some big baskets, but we needed to do some things better in the second half. They got a little bit of a run going, and we took some quick shots in the fourth quarter but they did a good job to get the win.”

The game was close early as Clay Mastin and Reid Hale both hit big three’s to give the Arrows a 6-5 lead before they started to build their lead. Tecumseh went on a 9-3 run over the final 5:40 of the quarter to take a 15-8 lead heading to the second.

Both teams battled in the second quarter to keep the game close at the half, with the Arrows leading 24-15.

After Hale hit a three to open the second half, Shawnee reeled off six straight points, holding the Arrows scoreless for three minutes, and the Braves cut their deficit to 27-21 with 4:50 left in the period.

Ross Warren broke the drought for the Arrows as they continued to maintain a lead heading to the fourth.

Mastin buried a three to open the fourth period after three scoreless minutes by both teams. The Arrows maintained their lead, as they had a 42-30 lead with 3:36 left. From there, Mastin hit four of six from the line, and the Arrows finished off their fourth win of the season.

Mastin led the Arrows with 19 points, Hale added 12.

Tecumseh is back in action on Friday night hosting Ben Logan on Friday, then travels to Xenia on Saturday for a non-league contest.
