At the November 16, 2017 meeting of the Bethel Township Board of Zoning Appeals, the board heard a request from JC Snediker of 6165 SR 201 to allow him to use his 23.248-acre parcel at that location as a wedding venue. The parcel is currently zoned A-2 General Agricultural.

According to Snediker, the driveway will be paved and the current 40 x 80-foot barn will be updated to hold 150 to 250 guests for weddings. In addition, he plans to update the landscaping. No additional septic upgrades are anticipated for the proposed use.

Several area residents attended the meeting to express their concerns about the proposed use. These concerns included noise from partying, DJs, vehicles and crowds. They also expressed their concerns about increased traffic, excessive lighting, alcohol abuse and screening.

Snediker reported that he would be controlling and monitoring the noise and alcohol and would put up fencing and bushes to block noise and lights from neighbors.

The BZA board members requested additional information on similar conditional uses granted within the township and any concerns that have developed because of this use.

Planning and Zoning Director Marty Caskey will research the issues. The BZA tabled a decision on the conditional use until they receive additional information. They will meet on December 21, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. to make a final decision on the request.
