Girl Scout Troops from the Honey Creek Service Unit (Enon / New Carlisle) joined troops from the Springfield Service Unit for the annual Thinking Day event on February 22, 2018 held at the Heritage Center in Springfield.

This is the day that Girl Scouts and Guil Guides from around the world celeb rate by doing the same activities. The theme this year was “Impact”. The girls think about what it means to make an impact on the world and celebrate the sisterhood that is part of being a Girl Scout or Girl Guide.

Maire Conway worked with Natalie Fritz to coordinate the event this year. With 180 girls representing 17 troops from both Service Units the room on the second floor was filled with giggles and a sense of adventure. The troops selected a country to represent and learned about foods, traditions and other interesting facts about their country leading up to the event.

The second floor room was filled with tables featuring a display made by the troops and their leaders that also provided “swaps” for the event. If you visited the Italy booth for example you could take one of the small flags from the display. While visiting Ireland, it was the wearing of the green that was part of the fun.

Later the troops moved to the first floor where foods representing each country could be found and a taste sample was provided for the girls. New Zealand featured “fairy bread” and if you took a taste from Japan, it was a creative fruit sushi to try.

The goal of the activity was to prove that although there are differences in each country, the people are all really the same. Being different can be a positive and that is what the troop leaders showed the girls during the preparation and implementation of the program.

There was also an opportunity for the scouts to earn badges as part of the program that included Daisy though Senior scouts at the event this year.
