The Northwestern football team opened the season with a dominant performance against Southeastern, as they build a three-touchdown lead at the half, and cruised to a 34-0 rout of the Trojans, giving the Warriors a 1-0 start to the season.
“Despite the score, we did not play well, we had a lot of dumb penalties” Northwestern coach Seth Whiting said. “We are happy to win, but if we keep playing like that, we won’t win a lot of games.”
Northwestern scored in the first quarter, and added to that with two more scores before the half, leading 21-0 at the break.
Another touchdown was scored in the third period to take their lead to 28-0, then Northwestern capped the scoring in the fourth, cruising to the win.
Trevor Gebby rushed and passed for a touchdown, while Cole Baldwin rushed for two scores, Eli Berner had a rushing touchdown and Cole Brewer caught a touchdown.
Baldwin rushed for 90 yards, while Gebby ran for 73 and Berner had 55 yards on two rushes. Gebby was 6-16 passing for 103 yards, and Brewer had two catches for 60 yards.
Northwestern hosts Northeastern on Friday night, 7:30.
“Our offensive and defensive lines played well tonight,” Whiting said. “Southeastern ran 48 plays tonight and only had 94 yards, while we had 300 yards by halftime.”
*Morgan Crawford scored twice for Northwestern last week in their game against Miami East, giving the Warriors a 2-1 victory over the Vikings in a girls’ soccer game.
Crawford saw her goals get assisted by Cameron Ciresi and Stephanie Angle, as Northwestern won their season opener.
