Northwestern’s Jenna Robbins pitched the Northwestern Warriors to a district championship on Saturday afternoon 5-0 over Middletown Madison to send the Warriors to the regionals this afternoon at Wright State University.

Also last week, the Warriors broke open a close game with a big seven-run sixth inning which led to a 12-2 walkoff victory over Arcanum to win the sectional championship.

Northwestern quickly broke through in the opening inning against junior Elle Siculan as Bry White launched a one out pitch over the wall in left field for a solo homerun to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead after the first inning. Jenna Robbins doubled with two outs in the at inning but was left stranded.

Back came Arcanum an inning later, as the Trojans took the lead with a two run second inning. It didn’t take the Trojans to tie the game, as their leadoff hitter Shai Robinson duplicated the feat of White by crushing a homerun to left to quickly tie the game at one.

After two outs were retired in the second inning, Arcanum added to their lead. Kaitlyn Zell singled and Hannah Weaver walked, putting the go-ahead run into scoring position. A popup to shortstop was dropped by the Warriors infielder for an error, allowing the running Zell to score with two outs, and the Trojans were leading 2-1.

Arcanum threated again in the third when McKenzie Sharritts doubled with one outs, but she was stranded in scoring position as the next two batters were retired leaving the Trojans with a 2-1 lead.

That was quickly erased as the Warriors batted in the third. Jamie Rutherford led off with a single and White followed with a hit. After Macie Crew reached on a fielders choice, Northwestern pitcher Robbins boomed a three-run homerun over the wall in left-center to turn a one-run deficit to a 4-2 lead.

While Robbins continued to control the game for the Warriors by keeping Arcanum batters off the basepaths, their offense added to the lead in the fifth.

With two outs, Robbins and Abby Zerkle both walked and an infield single by Maddie Current loaded the bases, which gave Miranda Gillman a chance to deliver and she drove in a run in the fifth, pushing their lead to 5-1 heading to the sixth.

The Warriors were on their way to the win, and in the sixth they ended any doubt as to the outcome. Rachel Martin and Rutherford led off with singles, and Crew later walked to load the bases. Robbins helped herself with a two run double, and later in the winning, Current blasted a three run homerun to increase their lead to 11-2. Later in the inning, Rutherford hit a tough ball in the infield which the Trojans couldn’t play, and another run scored to invoke the run-rule for the Warriors.
