Ed Note: The New Carlisle News continues the summer feature series, focusing on returning athletes from Tecumseh, Northwestern and Bethel. This week, a look at a 3-sport athlete for the Tecumseh Arrows making a name for himself on the baseball diamond, Blais Hale.

Coming off a solid sophomore season on the baseball diamond, Blais Hale knows that the expectations of success at Tecumseh High School. He has been around the many years of championship football with his father Chad being on the coaching staff, and now is a part of that tradition as a player. Again in baseball, Chad is the head varsity coach of the Arrows while Blais has developed into one of the top overall players in the Central Buckeye Conference. Also his older brother Reid just graduated with the younger sibling now following in his footsteps.

Hale has begun his high school career with many accolades on the baseball diamond. Two years ago as a freshman, he was honored as a first-team all-conference infielder for the Arrows, while being selected as a second-team all county outfielder. This past season, he was named to the second-team Central Buckeye Conference team as an infielder, as his game continues to grow.

With no rest, Hale also plays in the basketball program for the Arrows, playing some varsity action last year for the Arrows.

“I got started in sports by watching my older brother play the different sports and following my family to watch him,” the younger Hale said. “My parents and Reid influenced me in starting different sports (at Tecumseh).”

While he plays three sports, he declared baseball as his favorite, and with his accolades it’s not hard to see why. He was also invited to play in the Southern Ohio Prospects Game at the University of Cincinnati this summer, along with the Crossroads College Prospect Series in Gary, Indiana.

While he focuses on each sport during their respective season, he also turns extra attention on baseball strong during the off-season.

“I have been developing my all-around skills from playing football and basketball as well,” he said, but also plays on a very competitive Miami Valley Prospects baseball team during the summer.

“I will go to baseball workouts weekly during the fall and winter for the Prospects working on skills with the coaches, and do some lifting when I can.”

“When I lift, I am able to gain overall strength including arm strength to increase velocity,” Hale added. “I am also fielding extra ground balls working on arm action and footwork. Plus, I take extra batting to improve my swing.”

Hale’s goal with the Arrows baseball program is to win the CBC championship, which hasn’t been done since before 2008. He also stated he would like to make a run in the tournament, reflecting back to his freshman season with the Arrows when they stunned the baseball world with an impressive 4-3 win over power Vandalia Butler to reach the sectional championship game.

While his more immediate personal goal is to continue to improve and aim for first-team all-league and all-area, his future goal is to play college baseball at a high level and someday play professionally.

Hale is unsure as of now what his major will be in college, but he is sure of one thing. He wants to take baseball as far as he can go.
