The Animal Welfare League located in Clark County has stepped up to try and help owners who can no longer take care of their pets since The Humane Society Serving Clark County no longer is accepting owner released animals. The intake is very limited because the organization is already running pretty close to max occupancy with 140 – 160 animals already at their location. Area animal lovers can help by supporting both financially and with adoptions.

We spoke with Libby Bates the long time leader of the organization explained that the organization is dependent on volunteers and donations to keep the farm located at 6330 Willow Dale Road operating. Families and individuals looking to adopt a pet can visit on Wednesday from 10 – 2 or Saturday from 12 – 2. You can also make an appointment to come out and meet your new forever friend by calling 322-1121.

Pets located at the Animal Welfare League are featured on petfinder.com. Currently the Facebook page for the organization is not being updated on a regular basis, but Libby assures us that they are working to add this social media option for viewing adoptable pets.

The organization operates a thrift store located at 3 W. Pleasant Street in Springfield that helps to provide income for the food and other needs of the animals. They are open 11 – 4 everyday except Sunday. They do not accept donations of dry food, but always need dog and cat treats along with canned food.

Residents can also find a low cost spay and neuter program available to help reduce the population of unwanted pets in the county. You can learn more by contacting them at 323-9223 or stopping by the store. The program accepts cash only and the spay/neuter certificates are accepted by a number of veterinarians in Springfield/Clark County.

Other ways that you can support the organization is to register your Kroger Plus Card to support The Animal Welfare League. Their number is 80817. The organization receives funds each time that you use the card if it is registered to their organization. It is simple to complete the assignment online. Questions call the Kroger line at 1-866-221-4141.

Bates also shared that by becoming a member of the organization, you can help with the funding needed to keep the farm running. If you don’t have room for a pet, become a member and for just $5 a month you can support a cat or dog as another option to their program.
