New Carlisle Mayor Mike Lowrey and managers from the local Family Video store  took pies to the face Saturday evening as a part of the video store’s commitment to funding lymphoma research.

Visitors to the store that evening were given the opportunity to purchase tickets to slap a pie in someone’s face, with Mayor Lowrey’s own family paying to pie him.

He said his wife April and their two youngest children each hit him with pies in the name of lymphoma research, contributing to the New Carlisle store’s total earnings of $1,150 this year for the company’s donations to the Lymphoma Research Foundation. April Lowrey said the company has raised over $900,000 for the foundation this year, and the company’s website states they have raised over $4 million in the past four years of fundraisers at their stores.

Lymphoma is the most common blood cancer in adults, affecting more than 750,000 Americans.

Lowrey said it is important to maintain relationships with local businesses because they play an integral role in the city’s economy, noting that the New Carlisle Family Video is great at giving back to the community through their holiday gift baskets and other involvements.

“Keeping close with local businesses is important for the city—we all work together for the ultimate goal, which is making New Carlisle a better place,” Lowrey said.
