Are you looking to stretch out of your comfort zone for 2016? The New Carlisle Public Library offers several programs that you might enjoy.

On Tuesday January 19, 2016, the Mystery Book Club meets from 5:30 p.m.to 6:30 p.m. For January, the group is reading Lake House by Kate Morton. In the Lake House, Alice Edevane grows up at her family’s lakeside estate in Cornwall, England. She loves to write mysteries; however, her stories are no match for the one her family experiences. One midsummer evening after the family has entertained hundreds of guests, the Edevanes discover that their eleven-month-old son, Theo, has disappeared. Years later, Alice who lives in London, still harbors a suspicion as to who committed the crime. Sadie Sparrow, a young detective in the London police force, stumbles upon the old estate. Her curiosity is sparked and she and Alice work together to discover the shocking truth.

If you missed this month’s mystery, the club meets every month on the third Tuesday. For February, the group will read and discuss First to Die by James Patterson. In First to Die, a killer goes beyond the worst thing anyone has ever done. It is up to four women --a police detective, an assistant DA, a reporter, and a medical examiner to join forces to pursue the murderer whose twisted imagination has stunned an entire city.

The book for each month is posted under the adult events calendar on the New Carlisle Library Home Page.

In addition, a Coloring Meditation Session is also offered on January 19, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The activity provides a low-stress, low-stakes way to unlock your creative potential. Coloring meditation can help you relax, balance your body, your mind, and your spirit, make a spiritual connection, expand your creativity, increase your self-awareness and encourage self-expression.

On Wednesday, January 20, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tillie Jamison will offer a session on “What do I do with this tablet?!” For those who received an iPad, Kindle, or Nook for Christmas and are baffled by the technology, Jamison will teach participants how to use Facebook and to access free books from the library on the devices.

In addition, the Reader’s Choice Book Club will meet from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. to discuss Murder List by Julie Garwood. In Murder List Chicago, detective Alec Buchanan is offered a prime position with the FBI. He decides to leave the Windy City and join the top level of law enforcement. However, he must complete one last assignment as a bodyguard to heiress Regan Hamilton Madison. Madison has become entangled in deadly business. Madison suspects that the trouble started when she agreed to help a journalist expose a self-help guru who preys on lonely women. At one of the doctor’s seminars, he asks his guests to partake in a “cleansing” exercise in which they list of people who have hurt them. Madison completes the exercise and forgets about the experience until the first person on her list turns up dead. She must discover who has turned her private revenge fantasies into grisly reality.

For February, the group will read and discuss Cape Refuge by Terri Blackstock. Thelma and Wayne Owens run a bed and breakfast in Cape Refuge, Georgia. In addition, they care for seamen who have just been released from jails. They hold services in an old warehouse and take many of the seamen into their home. The two are discovered murdered in the warehouse where they held their church services. Their two daughters launch their own investigation to find the real killer.

The book for each month is posted under the adult events calendar on the New Carlisle Library Home Page.

Diane McClellan, doTERRA Advocate, will also introduce the doTERRA Product, Slim and Sassy in a session scheduled from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. on January 20, 2016. Free samples will be available of Slim and Sassy Metabolic Blend. McClellan will provide recipes to help incorporate Slim and Sassy Supplements into your lifestyle. A second session will be offered on Friday, January 29, 2016 from 12:00 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. for anyone interested who cannot attend the first session.
