For the first time since 1991, the Northwestern football team claimed a victory over Shawnee in a CBC crossover game, as they not only defeated the Braves last week, they did so in shutout fashion with a 21-0 victory in front of their home crowd on Friday night. The win was even sweeter for the upperclassmen, as they can remember the last two seasons when they were beaten by a combined 129-3.

But this year, the Warriors’ defense put the clamps on the Braves offense, while their offense did enough to win.

Cole Baldwin scored the games’ first touchdown on a 26-yard run in the second quarter, to give the Warriors a 7- 0 lead.

Later in the period before the half, Northwestern quarterback Trevor Gebby scored on a one-yard touchdown run, and the Warriors led 14-0 at the half.

A run score came in the third quarter when Gebby again scored from a yard out, giving Northwestern their final score of the night, and pushed their record to 3-1 overall.

After speaking with Doug Wigton, current Tecumseh assistant coach who was the head coach the last time the Warriors beat the Braves, he reflected back to the 1991 win.

“What I remember is that we were up 7-0 toward the end of the half, and kicked a 39 yard field goal put us up 10-0, and held on to win 10-8.”

Northwestern heads into a huge game this week at Kenton Ridge, with kickoff Friday night at 7:30.

Northwestern Boys Soccer- The Warriors suffered a pair of shutout losses last week, falling to Kenton Ridge 5-0, then came back and lost 9-0 at Tippecanoe. Northwestern tries to bounce back this week at Tecumseh tonight, then at Greenon on Monday.

Northwestern Girls Soccer- Despite falling in a pair of games last week, the Northwestern girls’ soccer team maintains their lead in the CBC Mad River Division. Northwestern lost to Kenton Ridge 2-0 last week, then fell short 4-1 to Tippecanoe last Wednesday. Stephanie Angle scored the lone goal in the game for the Warriors.

Northwestern Volleyball- The Warriors lost twice last week, as they lost to Tippecanoe 25-18, 25-13, 25-27, 25-15 in a crossover game. They also defeated Greenon 25-15, 25-15, 11-25, 21-25, 15-12. Sarah Hart led the Warriors against Tipp with seven kills and five assists, Korynne Berner had nine kills and four blocks, Hailey Houseman also had eight kills, seven digs and three aces, Shelby Lewis with nine digs, Rachel Martin had 20 assists and five digs, and Katelyn Partlow had nine kills and 10 digs and adding nine assists for Northwestern was Maria Rinaldi.
