The Northwestern Warriors (3-2) fall to the Kenton Ridge Cougars (4-1) and are shutout 47-0.

Warriors head coach Seth Whiting talks about his team’s difficult loss.

“Kenton Ridge came out and played very well and beat on us physically. As good as we played last week, we played equally as poor this week. I’m not disappointed in my guys. I’m disappointed in the way we played. I don’t think we played to our ability but I’m not disappointed in our effort.”

In the first quarter, the Warriors were stagnant on offense and defense as mistakes and turnovers plagued them.

On the Cougars first possession, they scored the first points of the game, making the score 7-0.

The Cougars would go on to score two more touchdowns. The score would be 21-0 going into the second quarter.

Warrior’s defensive lineman Landon Rohrer talks about the defensive struggles.

“Tonight I think the biggest issue we had was missed tackles. We got on the field and people were in the right positions but we just failed to execute. They had a little more heart than we did tonight.”

The second quarter wasn’t any different as the Warriors continued to struggle.

The Warriors offense couldn’t produce on the ground or in the air.

Warriors quarterback Trevor Gebby threw two out his four interceptions in the second quarter. The Cougars defensive back Tyler Batton would pick Gebby off twice, returning one interception for 43-yard touchdown.

Gebby recalls his ineffective night.

“I could’ve executed on offense. When you don’t move the ball and create a lot of turnovers your obviously going to put zero points on the board.”

That score and another touchdown would put the Cougars up 34-0 going into halftime.

Coming out of halftime, the Warriors defense halted the Cougars on their offensive possessions.

The Warriors still struggled on offense and were not able to put together any scoring drives as a couple clumsy penalties prevented them from doing that.

Both teams went scoreless in the third quarter but the Cougars were still on top 34-0.

Going into the fourth, the Cougars score another touchdown, making the score 41-0.

With more than six minutes left, the Warriors would get the ball back but would fail to convert on fourth down, giving the ball back to the Cougars.

On the Cougars ensuing possession, the Cougars would score from the one yard line, putting the score 47-0.

The Cougars would kickoff after the touchdown but the Warriors fumble the return and the Cougars recover the ball with 2:47 left in the game.

The Cougars would knee the ball to end the game.

Next week, the Warriors will return home and face the Benjamin Logan Raiders . Last year, the Raiders beat the Warriors 24-19.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm.
