After a scoreless first half, the Tecumseh girls’ soccer team scored team twice in the second half and made it stand up, as the Arrows knocked off the Knights 2-0 in a CBC contest last week.

The boys’ match also saw a big win for the Arrows, as they knocked off the Knights 4-3 to remain unbeaten in league play.

“In the first half, it was back and forth,” Tecumseh girls’ coach Craig Lindsey said. “Neither team maintained much possession. Both of us dominated play at times, and we both had equal shots at the half. Both defenses played well.”

After the game was scoreless at the intermission, the Arrows finally broke through midway through the second half when Julia Gibson scored over the keepers head giving the Arrows a 1-0 lead.

“The momentum went our way,” Lindsey said. “Multiple times we had good runs and Greenon did a great job catching our girls offsides. We pushed through.”

Tecumseh added another goal with seven minutes left when Allison Berner placed the ball to Jasmine Hassell who scored, giving the Arrows the insurance goal.

“We maintained the pressure in the final seven minutes,” Lindsey said. “We didn’t change much, we marked well where we could win the ball.”

*In the boys game, the Arrows held off a scrappy Greenon squad for a 4-3 victory to move their CBC record to 3-0-1 on the season.

Greenon tool the early lead, only three minutes into the game, when Chris Baird pushed the ball past Tecumseh keeper Hector Rosas to give the Knights a 1-0 lead at the 36:51 mark.

The rest of the half was a battle where both teams had chances, and with 3:08 left in the half, the Arrows tied the game headed into the half. At 3:08, Kenyon Runner scored off a pass from Tyler Adams, making it 1-1.

That’s how the first half ended before a lot of action took place during the final 40 minutes.

At the 28:02 mark of the second half, Noah Brown assisted the ball to Adams, who scored to give Tecumseh a 2-1 lead.

Brandon Thomas then took a pass from Runner off of a corner kick, and headed the ball past the keeper to push the Arrows lead out to 3-1.

Greenon then scored when Logan Schell made it 3-2 at the ten minute mark, but the Arrows regained their two goal lead two minutes later, when Thomas scored off an assist from Adams, giving the Arrows a 4-2 lead.

The Knights didn’t give up, as Owen Leahtley scored with three minutes left to make it 4-3, but the Arrows survived for the win.

“It was a good match, we had some good plays, we just weren’t ready on our urgency,” Runner said. “Greenon fought hard and scored on quick restarts. We have a new keeper due to injury, but Hector stepped up huge and did a great job.”
