For over 75 minutes, the battle between Tecumseh and Bellefontaine was as close as you can get. In fact, the two boys’ soccer teams were tied and Tecumseh coach Jason Runner was already thinking the game could remain even the rest of the way.

Then came the final 1:22 of the game.

The Chiefs scored in the final 90 seconds of the game, and escaped with a 2-1 victory over the Arrows in a CBC match last week.

“We got pushed too far forward and they countered and scored a goal to win in the final 1:22,” said a frustrated Tecumseh coach Jason Runner. “Instead of waiting for the tie, we took chances and we got beat.”

“It’s not what I wanted, I was trying to play conservative and it got away from us.”

With five minutes gone in the game, Noah Brown took a throw from Kenyon Runner and headed it into the net to give the Arrows a 1-0 lead, but with eight minutes left in the half, a penalty kick was called and Bellefontaine tied the game.

“We played ok, but we are taking too many touches and not letting the ball do the work,” Runner said. “We tend to dribble through 2-3 guys, but we did play well and moved the ball.”

It was a night that the five Arrows seniors were honored, as JC Brewer, Matt Jenkins, Tyler Adams, Victor Quiroga and Caleb Scaggs wrapped up their senior career on Senior night.

“They are all hard workers and have been around the program,” Runner said. “They know the things I want and it is a good group of kids.”

*Also last week, Tecumseh lost to Kenton Ridge 5-2 in league play, but bounced back to defeat Ben Logan 4-2.

Tecumseh Girls Soccer- The Lady Arrows girls’ soccer team finished last week with a 1-1 tie against Bellefontaine in a CBC contest. The Arrows now stand 5-1-2 in the league, with fourth place Bellefontaine at 3-2-3. Both teams trail the co-leaders from Tippecanoe and Kenton Ridge, both 7-0-1 on the season.

Scoring the lone goal in the game for the Arrows was sophomore Jasmine Hassell, with an assist coming from another sophomore Julia Gibson.

Tecumseh came back against Kenton Ridge, and finished with a 2-2 tie.

“It was a great game to be a part of, back and forth,” Tecumseh coach Craig Lindsey said.

20 min into the first half, Hailey Beel was six yards away and she put it past the keeper, to give Tecumseh a 1-0 lead.

Ten minutes later, Kenton Ridge scored to tie the game when they had a girl wide open and scored sending the game into half 1-1.

In the second half, Tecumseh made some adjustments and about the same time, Elizabeth Gomez found Kinley Berner who headed the all past tne keeper

“We kept up the pressure and with 10 minutes left, we went to clear it and it fell right to one of their girls who scored,” Lindsey said.

Tecumseh will finish third overall in the CBC with a 5-1-3 league record now, and conclude the CBC with tonight’s game at Tippecanoe.

*The Arrows then tied the co-leaders in the division, as they battled Kenton Ridge to a 2-2 tie, knocking the Cougars out of the top spot in the CBC.

*There has been a location change for tonight’s league matchup against Tippecanoe. Due to the ongoing track being completed at Spitzer Stadium, the girls’ home game has been moved.

The updated schedule has the girls game against Tippecanoe girls’ game now set for tonight at Tipp, kickoff 5:30. This will be followed by the varsity boys game against the Red Devils at 7:15. The JV games were moved to last night.
