Sports Notes:

Bethel Routs Ansonia Late 48-27

Bethel won their fifth game of the season last week with a 48-27 win over Ansonia last Friday in Darke County.

Josh Wills opened the scoring with a 72 yard touchdown run near the end of the first quarter to give the Bees a 7-0 lead. He pushed the lead to 13-0 when he scored again early in the second quarter.

After falling behind at the half, the Bees regrouped when Jacob Evans scored for the Bees and they took a 21-14 lead.

Ansonia took another lead heading to the fourth, but in the final period, it was all Bethel.

Evans scored his second touchdown of the game in the fourth to give the Bees a 28-20 lead. Wills scored again late in the game, and Noah Burns sealed the game for the Bees as they prepare to host Arcanum on Friday night in their season finale. It will be senior night for the Bees.

Northwestern Sports

The boys’ soccer team lost to Miami East last week in the Division Three sectional play 4-1 to close out their season. Also facing elimination from the sectional tournament was the volleyball team, who fell to Versailles 25-17, 25-16, 25-16. Earlier in the week, Northwestern won their tournament opener defeating Triad 25-17, 25-16, 25-20.

The girls’ soccer team has yet to allow a goal heading into their sectional championship game, which was played earlier this week after deadline.

They opened sectional play with a 9-0 win over Mechanicsburg, then came back with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Miami East. Northwestern battled West Liberty Salem on Monday night, and the winner of that game advances to tomorrow night’s district finals game at a location TBA against either Hamilton Badin or Preble Shawnee.
