Enon Mayor Tim Howard at the Speedway grand opening during the Apple Butter Festival

Saturday, October 8, 2016 will most likely enter the history books as one of the biggest festival dates in Enon. The annual Apple Butter Festival just happened to fall on the same day as the grand opening of the much anticipated rebuild of the local Speedway station.

Both events drew large crowds and parking was at a premium this year. The Greenon Band provided their traditional opening of the Historical Society event and then made their way over to the Speedway station to salute the arrival of the famous Budweiser Clydesdale hitch that paraded up Enon Road around 10:30 am for their appearance at the store.

Videos and photos were found on social media reporting all of the great food, arts and crafts and special guests at the festival and the grand opening events. Speedway had standing room only as Chester Cheetah made an appearance and offered photo ops to fans. K99.1 did a live radio broadcast from the store and guests wandered between the grand opening and the festival throughout the day.

Speedway corporation was well prepared for the large crowd and fast paced food service by brining in corporate support trying to keep the wait down.

Across the street, the popular fresh cooked apple butter was stirred by volunteers throughout the day and long lines appeared next to Enon School in anticipation of taking home a sweet treat offered only once a year at the hometown event.

The festival continued on Sunday with visitors able to get another opportunity to support hometown organizations who managed food booths and vendors who display their talents at the annual event.
