The Bethel Township Board of Trustees met Tuesday, January 7 for a reorganizational meeting and work session.

Newly-elected trustee Don Minton officially joined the roster of township officials at Tuesday’s meeting, as did newly-hired Township Administrator Shelly Huntington.

The trustees heard a presentation from Bob Stallman, Director of Community Development from DPL Energy, an unregulated affiliate of Dayton Power and Light.  Stallman attended the meeting to discuss his company’s offerings regarding electric aggregation.  He told the trustees that 19 Ohio communities currently choose DPL Energy as their electric aggregate provider, including three cities, seven villages, and several townships throughout the state.  Stallman said in addition to offering electric aggregation choices for township residents should the trustees decide to place such an issue on the May ballot, he also provides existing DP&L customers with the Electric Choice, or Community Savings program.  Stallman said the Community Savings Plan would offer DP&L customers all of the basics of an “opt-in” program without it having to be placed on the ballot first.

The trustees have not yet arrived at a decision concerning the placement of electric aggregation on the May ballot, but will likely do so by the beginning of February.

Trustee David Phares was named Chairman of the Bethel Township Trustees, and Don Minton was named Vice-Chairman during the reorganizational meeting.  Meeting times for regular sessions and work sessions will not change in 2014, with regular meetings scheduled for the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at 7 p.m., with work sessions usually being held on the first and third Tuesday of each month.  Chairman Phares was also named Road Superintendent for Bethel Township in 2014, and Mike Allender and Justin Legge were appointed as road maintenance workers for the year as well.

Jacob King was once again appointed as Bethel Township Fire Chief, with Jen Cotterman and Chris Ludwick being named Assistant-Chiefs for the year of 2014.  Ed Dow, Melanie Cochran, Jen Cotterman, Nancy Brown, and Jerry Meddock were named members of the volunteer Fire Fighter’s Dependents Fund.

The next regularly-scheduled Bethel Township Trustee meeting is set for Tuesday, January 14 at 7 p.m. in the Bethel Township Fire House, located at 3333 Lake Road.  For more information, call 937-849-9499.
