A trio of area wrestlers were victorious in their respective weight class, bringing home championships in the Raider Invitational held last weekend at Benjamin Logan High School.

Northwestern’s Jacob Lees won the 132 pound weight class, while the Warriors also celebrated a champion at 160, as Andrew Reisinger brought home the gold. Tecumseh also earned a champion as 106 pound Kainen Hackney won the title in his weight class.

Lees opened the event with a 9-4 win over Cyle Wells of Tecumseh in the first round, and came back in round two with a pin against Joseph Sulfridge of Southeastern in 4:45. In the semi-finals, Lees earned a major decision over Nick Baker of Piqua 8-0 to advance to the championship round. In the finals, Lees earned a technical fall over Logan Raney from Franklin 15-0.

Reisinger pinned Max Hoewischer in the opening round in 1:13 to advance to the second round of the Invitational, where he pinned Evan Harris in 3:25. In the semi-finals, Reisinger captured a major decision over Dawson Miller of Bellefontaine 15-2 to head to the finals. In his last match, the Northwestern grappler pinned Brennan Hicks of Piqua in 3:37.

Hackney opened the tournament with an opening round technical fall over Jacob Scheidler of Alter 19-2 to cruise into the quarterfinals, where he came back with another major decision by cruising past Ben Logan’s Jayden Sturgell 12-4 to head into the semis, where he pinned Branson Anway of Graham in 4:23 before closing out his perfect day with a 14-4 major decision of Kyle Kinder of Northeastern.

“He wrestled real well for us this weekend,” Tecumseh coach Scott Herbert said. “He beat the number four and number one seed and had a major decision against the number two seed.”

“Kainen got hurt at the (GMVWA) holiday tourney and has missed quite a bit, and we are pleased with how he wrestled.”

Other top placers for Tecumseh include Gavin Sineff placing third overall at 113, Hunter Donnon dropped down and wrestled 120 and placed fourth and Tommy Rowe was third at 145.

“Overall, we have a lot of illness and injury and missed several starters,” Herbert said. “We didn’t wrestle real well and hopefully we can get healthy for the CBC. We were road warriors this week, going to Columbus, Delaware and Ben Logan.”

Also placing for Northwestern was Nathan Snyder at 182 (third), Greg Snyder at 285 (fifth), and Brendan Hartsell at 170 (sixth).

*Tecumseh also placed ninth at Central Crossing in Columbus, with Hackney placing seventh at 106, Sineff was second at 113, Donnan sixth at 126, Alec Hall fourth at 138, Rowe fourth at 145 and Greg Asher fifth at 285.

He would have been the only senior for the Arrows this season. Tecumseh also will be in the CBC meet at Northwestern on February 18.
