Harold D. Shanks, age 87, of New Carlisle, OH passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, August 22, 2010.

Harold was born on September 21, 1922 in Jasper, OH.

Harold was a wonderful husband of 63 years, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved his family dearly.

Harold is preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Verna Shanks, brothers Truman, Orville, Raymond, Russell, Rebert and sisters Lena Hoagland and Velma Heinz.

Harold is survived by his loving wife Nora Jane Shanks (Mason), daughter-in-law Kris Frazier (Dean), daughters Raenell Cline (Bill) and Susie Stidham (Tim), sons Dale Shanks (Kim), Tom Shanks (Janice) and Kenny Shanks (Theresa), brothers Homer Shanks (Millie), Roger Shanks (Teena), sisters Jane Perkins and Polly Carroll (Donald), grandchildren Jason Nichols (Kathy), Amber Miller (Bruce), Allison Robertson (Chris), Jeff Frazier, Rachel Dillon, Megan Dillon and Cody Dillon, great-grandchildren Lindsey Miller, Leah Frazier, Colton Robertson and Luke Harold Robertson.

The family would like to thank dear friends Dennis Montgomery and Pete Ishmael, Evercare Hospice Team (Karen, Shannon, Christina, Sandy), and Cancer Care Center at UVMC.

Harold was employed by Dayton Power and Light for 31.5 years as a supervisor of the gas crew. He loved to go hunting especially mushroom hunting, garden, and farm. He was an outdoorsman. Harold enjoyed spending time with family especially the grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 1:00 PM at TROSTEL, CHAPMAN, DUNBAR & FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, 507 W. Jefferson St. New Carlisle, OH 45344. Visitation will be 11-1 PM in the funeral home. Harold will be buried at Glen Haven Cemetery.
