Monday evening’s New Carlisle City Council meeting was also the annual Town Hall and about a dozen area residents were in attendance.

City resident K. D. Snyder opened the public comments by questioning a recent ordinance that seems to contradict the will of the voters four years ago with the ¬Ĺ% City Income Tax.¬† He claimed that over a million dollars is missing from the school fund.

The recycling dates issued by Allied are incorrect.  Instead of starting with February 8, they should have started with February 1 and continue every other week.  Allied will be distributing correct flyers soon.

Water bills are due February 16, since February 15 is a holiday.

The February 8 City Council work session has been changed to include a special Council meeting.  The Council meeting will begin at 6:00 PM and the work session with Sheriff Gene Kelly will begin at 6:30.

City Service Director Howard Kitko reported that numerous city residents have received solicitations for water line insurance.  Kitko stated that the solicitations were not generated by the City but by a private company.  City Finance Director Richard Sexton suggested that residents contact the Better Business Bureau to check on the legitimacy of the company and with the Ohio Insurance Commission to find out if they are licensed to sell insurance in Ohio.  Sexton also stated that companies offering insurance of this type will not cover pre-existing conditions.

Council heard the first reading of three ordinances:
‚Äʬ†Ordinance 10-02 gives a 5% raise to the City Finance Director and City Service Director.
‚Äʬ†Ordinance 10-03 hires Kim Jones as the permanent City Manager
‚Äʬ†Ordinance 10-04 authorizes the City Manager to enter into a contract for engineering services for the Flora Avenue Phase I Reconstruction Project.
Public hearing and action on these ordinances will be at the next City Council meeting.

City Police Director Sgt. Ralph Underwood was asked by a council member to comment on the robbery of the Speedway station over the weekend.  Underwood said that when the call came in, Deputy Ron Fader was stopped at the traffic light at Main and Lake.  Underwood credited Fader’s proximity and his ability to quickly secure the evidence crucial in making a quick apprehension of the suspect.

The next New Carlisle City Council meeting will be a special meeting on Monday, February 8 at 6:00 PM at the Smith Park Shelter House.  That meeting will be followed by a work session with Sheriff Gene Kelly to discuss police services in the city.
